Brisbane Roar have confirmed goalkeeper Matt Acton will leave the club following the conclusion of the Isuzu UTE A-League 2024-25 season.
Competing with fellow goalkeeper Macklin Freke for the number one jersey, Acton featured 10 times for the Roar last season as Ruben Zadkovich’s side finished the campaign in 12th position.
A product of both the Queensland Academy of Sport and Brisbane Roar Youth, 33-year-old Acton spent close to 10 years with the Roar across three seperate stints.

“I’m sad and disappointed to have to say goodbye to this wonderful club and the fantastic fans,” said Acton after his exit was confirmed.
“I had hoped to continue representing my hometown club but unfortunately things don’t always work out the way we would like them to.
“I want to thank the club for giving me the opportunity to come back to Brisbane and play again where it all started for me in the A-League.
“I wish the club, Michael (Valkanis) and the players and most importantly the fans all the very best for the upcoming season and beyond.”

Roar have been active so far this off-season when it comes to both ins and outs as new head coach Michael Valkanis prepares to shape his squad ahead of the Isuzu UTE A-League 2025-26 campaign.
Bosnian youth international midfielder Milorad Stajic has arrived from FC Radnicki Nis, former Central Coast Mariners defender and Isuzu UTE A-League champion James McGarry has joined from Aberdeen, while Hosine Bility has made his loan move permanent and Western United forward Michael Ruhs has also signed on.
Meanwhile the club has farewelled club legend Jack Hingert after 14 years with the Roar while Asumah Abubakar’s loan has come to an end.
Furthermore Lebanon international Walid Shour has been released as has Indonesia international Rafael Struick.
