Western Sydney Wanderers sign Aussie star who’s been tipped for ‘high level overseas’

Western Sydney Wanderers have signed talented Australian midfielder Angus Thurgate on a three-year contract ahead of the Isuzu UTE A-League 2025-26 season.

Thurgate joins the Wanderers after Western United’s Club Participation Agreement (CPA) was placed in conditional hibernation for the upcoming campaign.

The 25-year-old has established himself as one of the competition’s best players, with former boss and Socceroos legend John Aloisi tipping the Aussie star for a “high level overseas”.

“The opportunity to join a top group of players and staff drew me in to the club straight away,” said Thurgate, who was named Western United’s 2024-25 Player of the Season.

“Speaking with Staj (head coach Alen Stajcic) and understanding the process and the direction of the club made it an easy decision.

“I’m looking forward to helping the team build on the back of last season and challenging at the top come the end of the season.

“I’m excited to experience CommBank Stadium as a Wanderer, it’s always been a tough place to come as a travelling team especially when the fans and the community are behind the boys, like they were last season, so I’m looking forward to getting out there and representing the West of Sydney.”
