Western Sydney Wanderers have confirmed they have agreed a club-record transfer fee with Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen for star Nicolas Milanovic.

A standout for the club during the 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League season, Milanovic’s form was key in helping the Wanderers return to the Finals Series this year where they were ultimately knocked out by Melbourne Victory in their Elimination Final.

Netting a career-best 12 goals during the regular season, the 23-year-old finished runner up in the race for the Golden Boot whilst his performances have also seen him knocking on the door of the Socceroos squad.

“This club has changed my life,” said Milanovic when addressing the Wanderers fans after the deal was announced.

“Thank you to my teammates, the coaching staff, the backroom staff and most importantly, the passionate Wanderers members and fans – your support has meant the world to me,”

“As I begin this new chapter and take on the challenge of playing in Europe, I know I wouldn’t be here without the belief and opportunity I was given at my hometown club.

“The Red & Black will always be part of me, and one day I will be back.”

Receiving the Wanderers Medal at the club’s end of season awards night, Milanovic played a key role in Alen Stacjic’s side as they put together a club-record 12-game unbeaten run whilst also smashing the club’s previous tally of goals scored in a season.

“Nicolas has had an outstanding return to his boyhood club,” said Stajcic when discussing the departing Milanovic who returned to the Wanderers in 2023.

“During the last two and a half seasons he has demonstrated not only his incredible talents, but a growth and maturity that has allowed him to become a consistent performer and integral part of the rise of the team throughout 2025.

He added: “Nicolas has left a great mark on the football club and helped build a renewed culture for success. We wish him all the best and will follow his career with anticipation.”

Joining his local side in 2015, Milanovic played his youth football in the Wanderers academy before leaving the club in a bid to secure first-team football.

After playing a season with St Albans Saints in the NPL Victoria, Milanovic then got his break with Isuzu UTE A-League side Western United before returning to his boyhood club.

“We are incredibly proud of Nicolas and everything he has achieved during his time with the Wanderers,” said club CEO Scott Hudson.

“His journey from local fan to one of the league’s standout performers is a testament to his character, commitment but most of all, his talent.

He continued: “At the Wanderers, we are committed to developing players who can make an impact not just in the A-Leagues, but on the global stage. Nicolas is a shining example of that vision, and we’re excited to see him embrace this new challenge with Aberdeen.

“Nicolas will always be part of the Wanderers family. He has left a legacy at our club, and we look forward to welcoming him back whenever he returns home.”
