Melbourne City have locked down a key part of their Ninja A-League Premiership-winning side ahead of the upcoming 2025-26 season with news vice-captain Taylor Otto has signed a one-year contract.

Named City’s Player of the Year, American Otto has put pen-to-paper on fresh terms that will see her run out once again for the two-time reigning premiers next season.

The 27-year-old was a mainstay at the heart of the City defence last season as she started all 25 games in a campaign which saw Michael Matricciani’s side clinch the Ninja A-League Premiership having gone the entire regular season unbeaten.

“Right from the moment I walked through the doors, Melbourne City has felt like home,” said Otto after signing her new deal.

“It’s such a special group to be part of, and I’m incredibly proud of everything we’ve achieved
over the last couple of years.

“We’ve still got so much more to accomplish, and I can’t wait to get back to work and do everything I can to help bring more silverware to the Club next season.”

Widely regarded as one of the best central defenders in the Ninja A-League, Otto has gone from strength to strength whilst at Melbourne City and has formed a formidable partnership alongside club captain Rebekah Stott.

Furthermore, Otto played a key role in helping her side reach the final of the inaugural AFC Women’s Champions League where City were ultimately defeated by Wuhan Jiangda on penalties.

“Taylor has been a hugely important member of our Women’s squad since she arrived at the Club,” said Melbourne City’s Director of Football, Michael Petrillo.

“Her form in defence and leadership both on and off the pitch have been pivotal to our success over the past two years.

He added: “A deserved winner of our Player of the Year, we’re thrilled to have her return for another season.”

Meanwhile City also announced that two players from last season’s Premiership winning squad will be departing.

Third-choice goalkeeper Sophia Varley and Canadian striker Kathryn Harvey will both leave the Club after reaching the end of their respective contracts.

21-year-old Varley leaves having made just one senior appearance for City while Harvey says goodbye after scoring three goals in 15 appearances for Matricciani’s side.
