An upbeat Mark Bosnich believes he will return to the field this season despite suffering a serious hamstring injury in the Central Coast Mariners’ 4-1 win over Perth in Gosford on Friday night.
Bosnich limped off after only six minutes after injuring his left hamstring while taking a goal kick.
Mariners medical staff believe Bosnich has suffered a torn hamstring, but the news will not be confirmed until the former Socceroo has tests on Monday.
“I’ve got to take this like a man,” Bosnich said.
“I’m hoping it’s not too serious and I can play again this year, maybe even Friday night (against Adelaide).”
“I’ve been getting fitter and fitter and this is a setback. Hopefully I’ll be able to play Friday night.”
Mariners manager Lawrie McKinna was disappointed about the injury but delighted with the performance of his team.
“It was a good effort, we got some good goals,” McKinna said.
“We now need to go and get a result in Adelaide and we’ll be sitting nicely after the first round.”
Under pressure Perth Glory coach Dave Mitchell was understandably shattered with the result.
He said his side ‘looked good’ until the Mariners scored the first goal.
“We even had a chance to score first,” Mitchell said.
“It wasn’t good enough, we’re better then that. We looked more solid in the second half.”
Perth came to the central coast confident after a first win of the season last week but failed to reproduce against a determined Mariners outfit.
