Sydney FC’s marquee man John Aloisi is confident his troublesome foot injury is no longer an issue after his successful cameo appearance against Perth Glory on Sunday.
Aloisi made an immediate impact on debut for his new club despite failing to find the back of the net and is itching for more game time against the Newcastle Jets on Saturday week.
“It pulled up alright after the weekend,” Aloisi said of his foot ailment.
“I was only on for 25 minutes but it was good to get a taste of it and now I’m looking forward to the next game.”
Asked to evaluate his long-awaited Hyundai A-League return Aloisi said: “I felt good, it was my first game since the grand final so it’s been a long wait.”
“It takes a while to get your bearings and it will take a while to get my match fitness up but I was quite happy just to get out there and also to get into a few goal-scoring positions and with a little bit of luck next time they’ll go in.”
Aloisi’s likely inclusion in the starting line-up is sure to bolster the already formidable Sydney forward line which already boasts Alex Brosque and Mark Bridge.
And the former Socceroo is confident he can co-exist with his fellow strikers and develop a lethal combination over time.
“You saw when I came on (against Perth), ‘Bridgey’ went out to the left and ‘Brosquey’ was still on the right and Steve Corica was just behind me, and it seemed to work well,” Aloisi explained.
“We’ve got a great squad and there’s a lot of depth there and it’s up to the coach what he wants to do then.”
Brosque, who led the Sky Blues’ attack last season with eight goals, says Aloisi has already made an impact on the club despite his limited time on the pitch.
“We haven’t really seen him yet but just having him at training you can notice a big difference around the club, he’s a real character and a good player to have at the club and once he starts playing we’re going to be pretty hard to stop,” Brosque said.
The 24-year-old admits he has relished the new-found freedom of playing out wide following the off-season arrival of Aloisi and Bridge.
“It is pretty much a free-roaming role which is one that I like and one that allows you to really put a lot of pressure on defenders when they don’t know where you’re going to be, so it’s one that I’m enjoying at the moment,” he said.
“It’s a lot better for myself to be able to get the ball already facing defenders which is part of my game that I enjoy doing and a part of the game that I’m enjoying at the moment.”
