‘Remarkable’ teenager ready to be ‘major contributor’ after Wanderers extension

Western Sydney Wanderers have secured the future of one of their most prodigious young Ninja A-League talents by handing Talia Younis a new one-year contract.

Despite being just 16 years of age, Younis proved to be a reliable member of the Wanderers’ first-team squad last season, starting 16 games whilst making 22 appearances in total.

Younis previously made Ninja A-League history by becoming the youngest player to debut in the competition and now extends her stay at the club she’s been with for more than five years.

“The confidence and belief the club has shown in me means a lot, and I truly believe in the potential this club has, from the coaching staff to my teammates,” said Younis after inking her new deal.

“I want to be a major contributor to the team’s and the club’s success and continue to showcase my ability.”

She continued: “Thank you to all the fans for your loyalty and support, even when results didn’t go our way. I hope to make you proud this season, for the sake of all of Western Sydney.

“I’d like to thank God, my family, my past and present coaches, my teammates, and of course, the amazing fans. I’m so appreciative of this opportunity and the support I’ve been given.”

Previously selected for the CommBank Junior Matildas squad for the AFC Under-17 Women’s Asian Cup in May 2024, Wanderers head coach Geoff Abrahams believes Younis’ re-signing is a major coup for the club.

“Talia represents exactly what we value at this club and brings a fearless drive to improve every time she steps on the pitch,” he said.

“From day one, she’s shown remarkable composure and maturity beyond her years, and we’re proud to continue supporting her development.”

He added: “Keeping Talia in Red and Black is important for our future and reflects the culture we’re building at the club.”

The move to tie down Younis comes off the back of the Wanderers also handing a new one-year contract to key midfielder Amy Chessari.

However they have farewelled 2024 Julie Dolan Medallist Sophie Harding with the striker bidding farewell to the club after three seasons in Red and Black.
