THE MAC IS BACK: Golden Boot winner re-signs in huge Ninja A-League coup

Melbourne City superstar Holly McNamara has re-signed with the two-time reigning Ninja A-League premiers in a huge boost for the club.

McNamara has signed on for her fifth season in City blue after claiming the 2024-25 Golden Boot.

The 22-year-old CommBank Matildas forward made an inspirational return from a third anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during the last campaign, netting an incredible 15 goals in just 17 appearances to top the league’s goalscoring charts.

“My time at Melbourne City has been incredibly special, and I’m so happy to be re-signing for a fifth season,” McNamara said.

“The support I’ve had from the club – through the highs and the challenges – has meant the world to me, and it made this decision an easy one.

“I still believe my best football is ahead of me, and I’m excited to go after more silverware with this amazing group.”

McNamara played a key role in City clinching back-to-back Ninja A-League Premierships, while she also found the back of the net en route to the club’s AFC Women’s Champions League final appearance in 2024-24.

Since debuting for City, the 11-time Australia international has scored 27 goals – just four adrift of the all-time record.

Last week, McNamara scored her maiden Matildas goal against Slovenia, 1,253 days after her debut on January 21, 2022.

“We’re absolutely delighted that Holly has committed to another season with the club,” said director of football Michael Petrillo.

“She’s one of the most exciting talents in the country, but what has really stood out over the past year is her growth as a leader within the squad.

“She sets high standards, drives our culture, and has a real winning mentality – qualities that have been crucial to our success in recent seasons.”
