Wanderers’ tough tackling midfielder targeting title bid after inking new deal: ‘So much potential’

Midfielder Amy Chessari will remain a Wanderer for the upcoming Ninja A-League 2025-26 season after putting pen-to-paper on a new one-year contract.

A key figure for the side last season, Chessari started 22 of a possible 23 matches under former boss Robbie Hooker and new head coach Geoff Abrahams.

An anchor at the base of the Wanderers’ midfield, Chessari won more tackles than any other midfielder in the Ninja A-League last season and expressed her pride at signing on for another campaign in Red and Black.

“This team has so much potential to be a title contender,” says Chessari after inking her new deal.

“We’ve consistently shown the quality and depth within our playing group, and I’m committed to playing my part to steer this team in the right direction.

“I’m focused on continuing my development as a player and doing everything I can to help the team achieve some overdue success.

“Thank you to the Western Sydney Wanderers for giving me my first opportunity in the A-Leagues, and to the members and fans for their unwavering support throughout the season. Stick with us, we’ll be working hard to deliver the wins this team and our supporters deserve.

“I’m especially grateful to my family and friends for their constant love and encouragement.

“A special thank you to my Dad who first kicked the ball with me as a little girl and sparked my love for the beautiful game.”

Initially joining the Wanderers on a scholarship deal ahead of the 2022-23 season, 21-year-old Chessari has consistently grown both as a person and a player in Western Sydney and has gone on to become a key figure under Abrahams.

“Amy embodies everything we value at this club, professionalism, humility, and a relentless work ethic,” said Abrahams.

“Amy’s earned her spot through consistency and determination. We’re incredibly proud of the progress made over the past few seasons and excited to see her play an even bigger role in the club’s success.”

Chessari’s re-signing comes after news 2024 Julie Dolan Medallist Sophie Harding had left the club after seeking an early termination of her Wanderers contract due to personal reasons.
