Roar teen sensation bags double & 15yo Adelaide prodigy also scores in Joeys win over Swiss

Brisbane Roar teenager Quinn MacNicol was the star of the show with a brace as the Subway Joeys defeated Switzerland Under-16s 4-3 in a friendly in the Swiss Alps.

There are 16 Isuzu UTE A-League prospects in the 24-player squad set that has travelled to Europe for a two-week camp as the Joeys look ahead to the 2025 AFC Under-17 Asian Cup and the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup.

Australia played their first match on Thursday before going head-to-head with Italian giants Inter, with the 120-minute clash featuring four 30-minute intervals at the Stadio Comunale Ascona as MacNicol starred with a two-goal performance.

The 16-year-old, who became the youngest ever scorer in the 2023 Australia Cup and the third youngest to debut in the Isuzu UTE A-League, struck in the ninth minute after the Joeys had fallen behind three minutes earlier.

MacNicol was at it again 10 minutes into the second interval as Australia took the lead before he sat out the third and fourth quarters.

Adelaide United prodigy Amlani Tatu found the back of the net in emphatic fashion in the 72nd minute.

The 15-year-old is an exciting Reds prospect, who has turned heads to start the 2024 NPLM SA season.

Tatu made his starting debut in Round 1 of this year’s campaign, the teenage winger making an impression for the Reds alongside the likes of Yaya Dukuly and Panashe Madanha.

The teen is a winger known for taking on players and his explosiveness on the ball.

“Despite his tender age of 15 years and 7 months, budding winger Amlani Tatu left a lasting impression with some explosive moments on debut,” wrote Adelaide United’s official website.

Gold Coast Knights attacker  David Bolongi also scored for the Joeys before Switzerland scored two goals in stoppage time.
