Who is the Isuzu UTE A-League signing of the season?

That is the question set to be answered via aleagues.com.au’s eToro Transfer Power Rankings in 2023-24, ranking the best performers of all this season’s signings every month.

Each player’s place in the eToro Transfer Power Rankings is based off their Opta Index score for the season – and the rankings will shift month to month based on performance until we can crown the signing of the season.

10. Daniel Arzani

  • Ranking last month: N/A
  • Opta index: 70.7
  • Transfer: Macarthur FC -> Melbourne Victory

At the end of January Daniel Arzani sat 10th on the eToro Transfer Power Rankings but after dropping out of the mix in February, is now back in the mix.

Arzani has made 24 appearances for Victory this season, has scored two goals and registered seven assists.

9. Bernardo Oliveira

  • Ranking last month: 8th (dropped one place)
  • Opta index: 70.8
  • Transfer: Adelaide United -> Macarthur FC

Bernardo Oliveira began March with two goals against Melbourne City but made just one further appearance in the month before he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury.

The 20-year-old was thriving at his new club following his mid-season move from Adelaide United before the injury but retains his spot in the top 10 of the eToro Transfer Power Rankings due to his brace against City.

8. Terry Antonis

  • Ranking last month: 10th (climbed two places)
  • Opta index: 70.8
  • Transfer: Free agent -> Melbourne City

Just 19 games into his first season at Melbourne City, Terry Antonis has already recorded his personal-best goals tally for a single season of five.

The fifth came in March – and it was one of the best goals in Isuzu UTE A-League history, scored from just past the halfway line in a stunning 7-0 rout of Western Sydney.

7. Mikael Doka

  • Ranking last month: 4th (dropped three places)
  • Opta index: 71.1
  • Transfer: Santos -> Central Coast Mariners

Mikael Doka’s season has continued to go from strength to strength as the Brazilian settles in beautifully to life on the Central Coast.

Doka has made six-consecutive starts for the Mariners and has helped his new side into top spot on the Isuzu UTE A-League table heading into Round 24.

6. Ryan Scott

  • Ranking last month: N/A
  • Opta index: 71.2
  • Transfer: Western United -> Newcastle Jets

Ryan Scott has flown up the eToro Transfer Power Rankings and he has his phenomenal performance in a 0-0 draw with Melbourne City at the end of March to thank for it.

The former Western United keeper made nine saves and kept a clean sheet in the goalless draw with City – a man of the match performance.

5. Josh Brillante

  • Ranking last month: 5th
  • Opta index: 72.1
  • Transfer: Melbourne Victory -> Western Sydney Wanderers

Josh Brillante led the eToro Transfer Power Rankings after November and his spot inside the top 10 has since fluctuated throughout the central midfielder’s first season at Western Sydney Wanderers.

4. Lachlan Brook

  • Ranking last month: 6th (climbed two places)
  • Opta index: 73.5
  • Transfer: Brentford -> Western Sydney Wanderers

Lachlan Brook added an eighth goal for the season to his name in March as the Wanderers signing made a move back up the eToro Transfer Power Rankings leaderboard.

The 23-year-old has made two appearances for the Wanderers in April but his club campaign is now on hold due to Brook’s involvement at the AFC U23 Asian Cup with the Olyroos.

3. Daniel Penha

  • Ranking last month: 3rd
  • Opta index: 74.8
  • Transfer: Atletico Mineiro -> Western United (loan)

Daniel Penha registered just one goal and one assist in his first 11 appearances for Western United, but has since exploded into form – and up the eToro Transfer Power Rankings leaderboard.

Penha now has seven goals and four assists to his name in 22 games.

2. Ángel Torres

  • Ranking last month: 2nd
  • Opta index: 76.3
  • Transfer: Balzan FC -> Central Coast Mariners

With 13 goals and three assists to his name in 22 appearances, Central Coast Mariners signing Ángel Torres is set to compete for signing of the season honours all the way to the end of his first Isuzu UTE A-League campaign.

The Colombian kept second spot on the eToro Transfer Power Rankings after March, having fended off a stern challenge from Penha.

1. Tolgay Arslan

  • Ranking last month:1st
  • Opta index: 83.3
  • Transfer: Udinese -> Melbourne City

Tolgay Arslan took the lead on the eToro Transfer Power Rankings in December and has held top spot ever since.

The Melbourne City midfielder has been one of the standout perfomers of the Isuzu UTE A-League season and with an Opta index score of 83.3, leads second-placed Torres by seven in the signing of the season battle.

It’s going to take something special to trump Arslan by the end of the season; the 33-year-old has two goals in as many games to begin April and is on course to maintain his impressive Opta index score by the end of the month.
