Mariners hero was asked about her future after historic title triumph. This was her answer

What does the future hold for Ninja A-League Grand Final hero Isabel Gomez? The Central Coast Mariners star is still unsure.

Gomez produced a best-on-ground performance as the Mariners outlasted Melbourne Victory in a dramatic penalty shootout to capture their maiden Championship on Sunday night.

The 22-year-old opened the scoring in the 1-1 draw at AAMI Park, where she also converted a penalty in the shootout for Central Coast – who conquered the competition just two seasons into their return following a 14-year hiatus.

For Gomez, it capped a dream week, having also earned a CommBank Matildas call-up.

The question post-game was whether Gomez would still be in Gosford in 2025-26.

“There’s a lot of options,” she told reporters. “Still unsure where I’m headed.”

It really was a fairytale seven days for Gomez.

In the space of a week, she scored a 121st-minute Semi-Final winner against unbeaten two-time reigning premiers Melbourne City to send shockwaves through the competition, earned a CommBank Matildas call-up, scored a Grand Final goal and won the Championship on Sunday.

Gomez was robbed of her chance to make her international debut in November after suffering a knee injury, having been called up for the first time.

But after 12 weeks on the sidelines, the Mariners midfielder returned in February and she has not looked back with five goals, including four in her past eight matches and in the Semi-Final and Final.

It has been a career-best season for Gomez, who has scored seven goals in 2024-25.

“She’s an incredibly special player,” Central Coast head coach Emily Husband said in a post-match press conference.

“She is somebody we know has incredible talent and she still has a lot more to give. I still don’t think she’s even at 100% yet.

“I look at our season and wonder what we could’ve achieved if we had her for a full season.

“She is not only an incredible player with great athletic ability, great technical ability, great decision making, she is a phenomenal person as well.

“So credit to her, credit to her family. She would’ve made a lot of people proud, not just tonight but the last two seasons.

“She’s been an absolute dream to coach. I couldn’t ask for a better player.”
