Why John Aloisi doesn’t want to put a ‘ceiling’ on ‘top, top player’ amid breakout season

Western United head coach John Aloisi believes in-form midfielder Rhys Bozinovski has “all the qualities to be a top, top player” after his latest standout performance in the Isuzu UTE A-League.

Bozinovski made it four goals in three games as high-flying Western defeated lowly Perth Glory 3-1 at Ironbark Fields on Saturday night.

The 21-year-old academy graduate is enjoying a breakout season in Tarneit, where he has established himself in the team’s midfield. He has played a career-high 22 games and scored a career-best five goals to help the Green and Black sit second in the standings, five points behind Auckland FC.

BIG INTERVIEW: I said goodbye, then an A-Leagues icon intervened. It led to my international debut

“I don’t want to put a ceiling on him,” Aloisi told reporters when asked about Bozinovski.

“He’s definitely a player we’ve believed in for a number of years. Our only question mark was his body and getting him playing week in, week out. He’s been able to do that this season.

“We couldn’t be happier because we know Rhys is still learning and the game and there’s still so much more left in him.

“He was great again, not only his goal but winning the ball in good areas, getting on the ball, playing forward. Him and Angus (Thurgate) have a really good understanding, and they drive out team with their energy.

“The ceiling is up to him where he wants to get to but he has all the qualities to be a top, top player.”
