Brisbane Roar sensation Quinn MacNicol scored a long-range goal as the Subway Joeys kicked off their AFC Under-17 Asian Cup with a 1-1 draw against Vietnam.
MacNicol broke the deadlock in the 41st minute of their Group B opener on Saturday (AEST) before Vietnam earned a share of the spoils in Saudi Arabia, where the Joeys struck the woodwork on three occasions.

Isuzu UTE A-League prospects dominated the line-up, with Jai Ajanovic (Central Coast Mariners), Besian Kutleshi (Western United), Charlie Parkin (Brisbane Roar), Haine Eames (Central Coast Mariners), MacNicol, Amlani Tatu (Adelaide United), Akol Akon (Western Sydney Wanderers) and Rhys Williams (Brisbane Roar) in the starting XI, while Christian Pullella (Perth Glory), Jay Maltz (Sydney FC), Anthony Didulica (Western United) and Logan Sambrook (Central Coast Mariners) came off the bench.

Attention will now turn to Australia’s remaining matches against Japan and the United Arab Emirates as they look to seal a top-two berth and not only progress to the knockout phase but qualify for the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup.
The Joeys meet the UAE on Tuesday (AEST).
