It’s easy to support a team when they are flying high at the right end of the ladder. But the real proof of passion and commitment comes when the results aren’t going your way. It’s then that your club needs you the most.

The Central Coast come into this game on the back of the disappointment of losing the F3 derby last week. However, they will take heart from a decent second-half performance in which they created some good chances.
There is no need to press the panic button just yet. In Graham Arnold they have a fine boss who has a decent bunch of experienced heads and young stars at his disposal. Make no mistake, Mariners are still a good side, but they’ll need to be at their very best if they are to overcome a club that has started the season in incredible form.
Last Sunday, Perth Glory made it three wins from three with a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over Wellington Phoenix. And, once again, it was Shane Smeltz that did the damage, volleying home from close range in the 33rd minute for his 52nd Hyundai A-League strike and his third in two matches.
The striker is now a single goal behind Melbourne Victory’s Archie Thompson in terms of most goals scored in the Hyundai A-League, so he will be even more fired up than ever to find the target in Gosford.
Perth are the only side other than Brisbane Roar to have achieved a 100 per cent start to the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season, and find themselves only behind the champions on goal-difference. The key to Glory’s fine start to the campaign is patience. Happy to concede possession and hit teams with a sucker-punch, their style is especially suited to playing away from home.
Mariners should beware, this is a team that is perfectly suited to stealing the points from right under their noses. One things seems certain, with all of Perth’s wins and Mariner’s defeats being by the odd goal, this game will be as tight as they come.
