Whether it was the culmination of a slick team move or an impudent piece of improvisation, there was plenty to enjoy in the goalscoring stakes for supporters from Sydney to Perth and from Wellington to Brisbane last term.

Scott Galloway (Adelaide United)

Rd 1 v Sydney FC

The Reds full-back introduced us all to the new season in wonderful style back in October.

After receiving the ball just outside the area, Galloway got his head up and guided a perfectly weighted right-foot lob over stranded Sydney FC ‘keeper Andrew Redmayne.

It was the first goal of the 2018/19 Hyundai A-League campaign, and was voted as October’s Goal of the Month

Terry Antonis (Melbourne Victory)

Rd 3 v Newcastle Jets

The midfielder scored twice against Newcastle Jets this term; his first handed Melbourne Victory their opening win of the season.

Antonis received an inch-perfect square pass from Keisuke Honda in the 71st minute, before clipping in a low drive from outside the box to clinch a 1-0 win, and November’s Goal of the Month

David Williams (Wellington Phoenix)

Rd 9 v Brisbane Roar

The Wellington Phoenix forward scooped the Goal of the Month award for December thanks to this searing hit against his former club Brisbane Roar.

Williams curled an unstoppable first-time effort past Jamie Young from the edge of the box to send Wellington on the way to a convincing 4-1 victory.

Jaushua Sotirio (Western Sydney Wanderers)

Rd 15 v Melbourne City

Luke Brattan netted an excellent goal during Melbourne City’s roller-coaster 4-3 triumph over Western Sydney at AAMI Park in January, but his thunder was well and truly stolen by Jaushua Sotirio.

After 54 minutes of the same game, the Wanderers winger received Roly Bonevacia’s lay-off and curled in a fine first-time finish with his left foot from the edge of the area to give Wanderers – albeit temporarily – the lead.

His perfectly placed effort may not have earned any points for his side, but it did allow him to take home the Goal of the Month award for January

Eric Bautheac (Brisbane Roar)

Rd 20 v Central Coast Mariners

Is there any goal more exhilarating than an acrobatic overhead?

Eric Bautheac delivered a jaw-dropping classic of the genre to open the scoring in February’s 5-3 Roar win in Gosford, controlling Dylan Wenzel-Halls’ chipped cross on his chest and then completing the spectacular.

His strike not only won him February’s Goal of the Month voting, but also saw him take out the Hyundai A-League Goal of the Year gong at May’s Dolan Warren Awards

Dylan Wenzel-Halls (Brisbane Roar)

Rd 21 v Western Sydney Wanderers

Former NPL Queensland sensation Wenzel-Halls made a seamless adjustment to the Hyundai A-League in 2018/19, as seen by this great goal – his fourth of the campaign.

After cutting inside the wrong-footed Bruce Kamau, the 21-year-old’s well-struck curling effort gave Western Sydney Wanderers ‘keeper Vedran Janjetovic no chance and earned Wenzel-Halls the March plaudits

David Williams (Wellington Phoenix)

Rd 23 v Newcastle Jets

Williams enjoyed a special season in the New Zealand capital, and was at his most dangerous during March, when he scored five times.

That haul was highlighted by this right-footed rocket that whistled past a helpless Glen Moss 65 minutes into a 4-1 victory over Newcastle Jets, and sealed a marvellous hat-trick.

Riley McGree (Melbourne City)

Rd 24 v Brisbane Roar

Formerly a Puskas Award nominee, McGree is no stranger to scoring memorable goals, and he was at it again with a moment of brilliance against Brisbane at AAMI Park in early April.

From a tricky angle near the byline, the City youngster showed his class to make space and pick out the far corner with a delicate chip over Jamie Young.

Eric Bautheac (Brisbane Roar)

Rd 27 v Adelaide United

It went viral online and Eric Bautheac promised it was intentional.

If you take the French winger at his word, then the Panenka penalty that outfoxed Adelaide ‘keeper Paul Izzo was a work of genius. Either way, it took out April’s Goal of the Month voting

Diego Castro (Perth Glory)

Semi Final v Adelaide United

Who knew the excitement to come when Diego Castro finished off a slick team move to put his Glory side 1-0 up in May’s Hyundai A-League Semi Final at home to Adelaide United?

The Spanish sorcerer was involved in the build up and then ghosted into the area to finish things off with a sharply taken fake-and-strike to open the scoring in what ended as a 3-3 thriller after extra time.

It was a strike worthy of finishing top of the pile in the voting for May’s Goal of the Month
