Adelaide completed its first training session at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday morning and coach Aurelio Vidmar has no concerns about the condition of the pitch ahead of the blockbuster against Sydney.
The Reds spent two hours on the field, which continues to be prepared in readiness for Saturday night’s crucial Hyundai A-League match.
Adelaide Oval hosted a Twenty20 match on Sunday night, but the pitch is expected to be in great condition come Saturday night.
“I would imagine it won’t be any different than it was last year and come game day, the pitch was very good,” Vidmar said.
“Adelaide Oval is not an issue. It’s about us focusing on who we’ve got to play and that’s Sydney so the game is already tough.”
Vidmar also revealed that defender Scott Jamieson should start the match after he trained strongly, despite injuring his hip in the victory over Perth last week.
“He did a little bit of recovery and rehab yesterday but he was out on the track today so he should be fine,” Vidmar said.
A sell-out crowd packed into the ground for the previous encounter and Vidmar is hoping for a similar attendance this time round.
“We’re hoping we can get another full house like we did last year, I think that is extremely important,” he said.
“I know it’s the festive season so supporters can come out and have a couple of drinks and really cheer on the Reds, which I think is going to be important when we need an extra hand.”
A win would consolidate Adelaide’s position on top of the ladder, having still played one game less than its closest rivals.
