Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten along with Head of A-League Lyall Gorman, Melbourne Victory Managing Director Richard Wilson and Football Federation Tasmania (FFT) CEO John Boulous have officially launched the Hyundai A-League ‘Community’ match in Launceston.

With tickets going on sale on December 20 for the match at Aurora Stadium on February 1, 2012, the Tasmanian football community has been urged to get in early to avoid missing out on this marquee fixture.
“This match will create a huge wave of interest and continue to increase the exposure of football and the Hyundai A-League in Tasmania,
leading into the football season and registration period for clubs,” said FFT CEO John Boulous.
“We would urge our large participation base to take up this special ticket offer available for registered players and encourage the entire football community, not only from Launceston but all surrounding areas, to come along to what will no doubt be a highly entertaining and exciting event on our sporting calendar.”
This will be the first Hyundai A-League match played for competition points in Tasmania and will see some of the game-s biggest names and most exciting talents take to the field at Aurora Stadium.
“We’re very excited to see Aurora Stadium play host to Hyundai A-league football right here in Launceston,” said Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten.
“Football is a sport that has a large following in Launceston and you only have to visit a few sportsgrounds around the municipality on a weekend to see how much the game is growing in popularity, particularly among the younger generation.
“I hope the people of Launceston, who have been so supportive of AFL at Aurora Stadium, will come along for what promises to be a very exciting game.”
The Hyundai A-League 2011/12 ‘Community- matches have so far taken in Morwell in Victoria and Dunedin in New Zealand and will visit Campbelltown and Bathurst in NSW before finishing up this headline match in Launceston on February 1.
“Broadening our football horizons and connecting with more participants through the Hyundai A-League is one of our key strategic areas,” said Head of A-League Lyall Gorman.
“Having players of the quality and character of Harry Kewell, James Brown, Archie Thompson and Michael Thwaite all set to play in this fixture is a great example for all young players in the region and I would implore them to take advantage of the great ticket prices on offer.
“Our Events and Operations team, Aurora Stadium and our host broadcaster Fox Sports have put in a great effort to reconfigure the venue so that fans can be even closer to the action in what will be an intimate and unique event.”
Tickets for the match go on sale on Tuesday 20 December, via Ticketmaster, prices starting at $12 for Adults and $30 for a Family.
A 10% discount on reserved seats for registered players in Tasmania plus Melbourne Victory and Gold Coast United members is also on offer.
With the Aurora Stadium reconfiguring its pitch to bring fans closer to the action and to generate a ‘football’ atmosphere fans are urged to get in early to secure a seat for the match.
