A humble Roy Krishna has paid tribute to the fans after voting his long-range missile as the Hyundai A-League’s goal of the month for October.
The Phoenix striker claimed the inaugural award after netting a spectacular individual strike in Wellington’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Brisbane Roar in Round 4.
Krishna collected almost 42% of the vote, edging out Dimitri Petratos and Daniel De Silva for the award.
“I’d like to thank all the fans who voted for me, also my team mates, especially Michael McGlinchey for the assist, Krishna said.
“We’ve been training hard and I’ve come close on the training pitch.
“When you get opportunities like this in the game, with a defender backing off you’ve got to try your luck – which I did and it paid off.”

With an Olympic goal to his name for his native Fiji, the 30-year-old is proudly waving his nation’s flag in the Hyundai A-League.
“It’s always good to put Fiji on the map. I’m very proud to be Fijian and to be able to represent them in the Hyundai A-League for the Phoenix is a privilege,” he said.
“The support from back home is great, it helps drive me forward.”
After a slow start, Wellington have begun to settle under new coach Darije Kalezić and claimed their first win of the season with a 5-2 drubbing of Perth Glory last weekend.
Krishna captained the Phoenix against Glory and said he’s enjoying playing under the Swiss-born manager.
“He’s been clear with what he wants us to do. I’m happy and enjoying my football – and that shows on the field,” Krishna said.
“My team mates around me give me a real boost.”
With the Phoenix set to tackle Western Sydney Wanderers this weekend, Krishna will come up against former teammate and good friend Roly Bonevacia.
And while admitting they are close off the field, he insists friendships will be cast aside on Saturday.
“Roly’s always a real laugh, he’s a real character in the change room – we’re still in contact, off the pitch we’re good mates,” Krishna revealed.
“But on the pitch it’s totally different.
“Wanderers are a good side, but so are we – so it’ll be an exciting match.”
