Wellington Phoenix have added two experienced Hyundai A-League players to their roster on Monday, announcing the signings of Mitch Nichols and David Williams.
Nichols signs on with 219 Hyundai A-League appearances and 39 goals, while Williams has played 148 times in the competition and scored 29 goals.

“These two players are proven A-League competitors – as their statistics prove, they both can score goals, and they both are capable of a bit of x-factor which can change a game,” Phoniex coach Mark Rudan said.
“But importantly for me, and right at the top of my player characteristics list, is leadership and experience.
“These two players have that – with over 350 A-League appearances between them we have signed some real A-League grunt.”
Nichols, 29, now joins his fifth club in the Hyundai A-League after stints at Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory, Western Sydney Wanderers and Perth Glory.
The classy midfielder has signed a two-year deal with the Phoenix.
He said the chance to join Rudan’s revolution in Wellington was an exciting next step in his career.
“Every time I came to Wellington I knew it was a special place with a special following and I’m looking forward to showing the fans what I can offer,” the five-cap Caltex Socceroo said.
“I talked with Mark and wanted to be part of the project that Mark is building here in Wellington.
“I can’t wait to get in to the full swing of things, work hard and earn my place.’’
Like Nichols, Williams is joining his fifth club in the Hyundai A-League, but hasn’t played in the competition since 2016 when at Melbourne City.
The speedy striker, who has inked a one-year deal in Wellington has spent the last two years playing in Hungary at Haladas.
“Mark has a very clear vision of where the club can go this season,” Williams said of Rudan.
“Mark’s an extremely driven coach and after talking to him about the project here I wanted to be a part of it.
“Having played in the A-League already I know I have what it takes to compete and win at the highest level.
“I’m looking forward to bringing that with me to Wellington.”
Nichols and Williams’ signings follow on from the signings of ex-English Premier League defender Steven Taylor and Polish international keeper Filip Kurto.
Phoenix are also expected to announce the signing of Polish midfielder Michal Kopczynski later this week.
