Nani’s honour roll: Melbourne Victory marquee’s epic trophy cabinet

Nani will call Melbourne Victory home for the next two seasons after swapping Europe for the Isuzu UTE A-League.

The former Manchester United and Portugal star links up with Victory in a huge coup not only for the club but the competition.

Nani had spent the second half of the 2021-22 season at Serie A outfit Venezia before making the move to a Victory side eyeing silverware, having fallen to eventual champions Western United in last term’s semi-finals.

The 35-year-old has enjoyed an illustrious career on the domestic and international stage.

European Championship

At international level, Nani amassed 112 caps and 24 goals following his 2006 debut.

The fifth-most capped player in Portugal’s history and in the country’s all-time top 10 for goals scored, Nani helped the Selecao to Euro 2016 glory.

Nani scored three goals throughout the tournament – the most by a Portugal player alongside Cristiano Ronaldo – as Fernando Santos’ men upstaged hosts France in the decider.

He played the entire 120 minutes at the Stade de France, where Eder’s 109th-minute goal delivered Portugal their first major trophy.

Champions League

Signed by Alex Ferguson’s United from Sporting CP for €25.5million in 2007, Nani won the Champions League in his first season at Old Trafford.

Nani made 11 appearances en route to the Moscow showpiece against Chelsea, assisting three goals.

After Ronaldo and Frank Lampard traded goals in normal time, Nani converted a penalty as United prevailed on spot-kicks in the Russian rain.

Premier League

Nani left Manchester with a haul of four Premier League medals.

In season number one, Nani scored three goals and teed up nine of his own as United topped the Premier League in 2007-08 before the Red Devils defended their crown the following campaign.

Nani led the Premier League in assists (14) while scoring nine as United dethroned Chelsea in 2010-11.

United haven’t won the Premier League since Ferguson’s final season in 2012-13 – Nani was part of that triumphant team.

FIFA Club World Cup

After taking down Chelsea in the Champions League final, Nani and United went up against Gamba Osaka in the semi-finals of the 2008 Club World Cup.

Having outlasted a Gamba team that defeated A-Leagues outfit Adelaide United in the quarter-finals, the Red Devils then saw off LDU Quito 1-0 in the final in Yokohama.

EFL Cup

During his time at United, Nani won the EFL Cup on two occasions.

In 2008-09, Nani scored three goals en route to the final, which United won after prevailing on penalties against Tottenham at Wembley.

United went back-to-back the following campaign thanks to a 2-1 win over Aston Villa in London.

Community Shield

Nani won four Community Shields in his time with United – 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011.

That standout was the 2011 curtain-raiser against neighbours Manchester City, who were just beginning their charge on Premier League football.

Nani scored twice in the Wembley clash, a second-half equaliser and a dramatic winner in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Taca de Portugal


Before Nani joined United, he helped boyhood club Sporting to silverware in 2006-07.

A knockout tournament in Portugal, Nani played in the final as Sporting defeated Belenenses 1-0.

Nani won the tournament in two other spells with Sporting.

Back on loan in 2014-15, Nani scored in the penalty shoot-out victory over Braga, while he was involved in the 2018-19 triumph when he returned on a permanent basis.

Nani celebrated the 2018-19 title.

Taca da Liga

In the Portuguese League Cup, Nani’s Sporting conquered bitter rivals Porto in the 2019 final.

Sporting won 3-1 in a penalty shoot-out, in which Nani scored, after a 1-1 draw.
