Moore wants more

Brisbane Roar skipper Craig Moore is confident his team will have no team to fear if they can get on a roll with a win against Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.

The Socceroos defender returned to training this morning following his heroics in Oman on the weekend and is now looking for another big win with the Roar.

A successful result would see the club string two wins together for the first time this season, something Moore believes would go a long way to proving Brisbane’s credentials.

“After the result against Adelaide it’s important to try and build up some momentum which is something that no team has really done this season,” he said.

“It’s important that we can win games at home. It’s also important as far as where we are on the ladder and where Melbourne are – it would definitely close the gap and put us a little bit closer.”

“Obviously our aim is to go out and get all three points against Victory.”

Brisbane’s win over Adelaide in the last round leaves them just one point outside top six and Moore said if the Roar could time their run right they would have every reason to be confident.

“I do believe that there’s very little between teams and if we can gain momentum and hit form at the right time, you get to the playoff stages I can honestly say that I wouldn’t fear any team,” he said.

Melbourne are already near-certainties to make the finals as it sits just one point from first-placed Sydney, but a 4-0 loss at home to the Central Coast Mariners in the last outing typifies the league’s unpredictability.

Moore said he expected more attacking play at Suncorp Stadium, but at both ends of the park.

“They (games between the two clubs) have tended to be very open games,” he said.

“We’re known to be quite an open and attacking side. Melbourne are exactly the same and probably have for me the best attacking third in the A-League.”

“They’ve always been a lively team going forward. Our job is to minimise their chances and hopefully we can create a few and take our own.”

A potential bolter in the Roar attack is Moore’s former Rangers team mate Charlie Miller, who has trained strongly since the Adelaide match.

Moore said Miller’s return would be a big boost for the squad.

“I would love him back, I’m sure the Brisbane Roar fans would love to see him back and people who generally love football would love to see him back because he brings so much to the game,” he said.
