Marc Janko’s incredible goal-scoring run has Sydney FC’s Austrian marksman on the verge of breaking a Hyundai A-League record in Sunday’s clash with Brisbane Roar FC at Allianz.
Janko equaled the previous record – set by then-Roar frontman Besart Berisha in 2012 – of scoring in six straight matches when he bagged the winner in last Friday’s 1-0 win over Newcastle Jets.

And with the Sky Blues the hottest team in the competition right now, you wouldn’t bet against Janko achieving the mark at Allianz Stadium this weekend.
The imposing 196-cm striker has been on some run of form since the return from the Asian Cup break, scoring nine times in six matches to shoot to the top of the Hyundai A-League scoring charts.
It started with a brace against Central Coast Mariners in January and he hasn’t stopped since scoring against Perth Glory, Melbourne Victory (two), Mariners again, the Wanderers (two) and the Jets.

He has 13 for the season to sit one clear of Wellington Phoenix’s Nathan Burns with seven regular season matches remaining.
Janko is set to break Sydney FC’s record for goals in a season, currently held by Italian legend Alessandro Del Piero with 14 goals in his first year with the club in 2012-13.
Given his incredible hot-streak it would appear almost certain Janko will surpass that mark between now and the end of the season.
Although he has work to do to if he wants to break the record for most goals in a campaign, also held by Berisha from that prolific 2011-12 season.

The Albanian found the back of the net 21 times during that campaign in helping Roar claim back-to-back Hyundai A-League titles.
There is also an interesting battle looming between two greats of the competition.
Victory veteran Archie Thompson (84) sits just one ahead of Janko’s Sky Blues team-mate Shane Smeltz (83) on the all-time Hyundai A-League scoring charts.
While the pair may no longer be regular starters for their respective clubs, they have shown they still have an eye for goal with six apiece for the season.
