Commentator’s Peter Crouch premonition comes true as Bulls striker wheels out iconic celebration

WATCH: Harrison Sawyer wheels out Peter Crouch robot celebration

Is Macarthur Bulls striker Harrison Sawyer the Isuzu UTE A-League’s Peter Crouch?

One week ago, A-Leagues legend Daniel McBreen pointed out the similarities between the in-form Bulls marksman and the Premier League cult hero – and not just in stature.

Sawyer went 16 Isuzu UTE A-League games without a goal before finding the back of the net twice against Newcastle Jets in Round 24; with the drought broken, a revitalised Sawyer scored once again in a 5-1 win over Brisbane Roar on Friday night.

After his two-goal heroics in a 3-3 draw with the Jets, McBreen likened Sawyer’s A-Leagues goal drought to that of Crouch when he first arrived at Liverpool in 2005.

“Peter Crouch took 17 games before he scored a goal for Liverpool – and then he became a legend at Liverpool, and was there for a long time and scored loads of goals,” McBreen said.

“Harry Sawyer is a big, big unit – but he’s a good footballer as well, and he causes trouble.”

This week, Sawyer made it three goals in two games – and to mark the continuation of his purple patch, he wheeled out Crouch’s iconic robot celebration.

McBreen was back in the commentary box for Macarthur’s 5-1 win on Friday night, a victory capped off by Sawyer’s stoppage-time strike. He was quick to point out the towering Bulls striker’s homage to fellow big man Crouch in the aftermath of his third goal in two games.

“He’s not quite as tall as Peter Crouch, and I did say last week Peter Crouch waited 17 matches to score his first ever goal for Liverpool, and went on to be a big figure at his club,” he said.

“Let’s hope Harry Sawyer can do the same.”

Sawyer first arrived on the Isuzu UTE A-League scene in the 2016-17 campaign. He played five games for Newcastle Jets before a near-eight-year hiatus from the competition, returning to the league with the Bulls in September, 2024.

After 11 goalless games at the club, Sawyer has hit his straps as Macarthur continue their late push to break into the top six by the end of the regular season.
