A-Leagues commentator Simon Hill has revealed Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids is reportedly on the verge of signing 17-year-old Brisbane Roar centre-back Lucas Herrington.
Herrington, labelled as the “best defender in Australian football” in pre-season by Roar head coach Ruben Zadkovich, was backed to net a significant transfer fee for the club by the Roar boss in February.
During Brisbane’s home clash with Macarthur Bulls on Friday night, Hill reported on the Network 10 broadcast that representatives from the MLS club were present at Suncorp Stadium in anticipation of the imminent deal.

The MLS transfer window is currently open, and will close on April 23.
“It’s come to hand at half-time that MLS club Colorado Rapids are here at Suncorp (Stadium) tonight watching Lucas Herrington, with a view to – we understand – make an offer for the 17-year-old this week,” Hill said, adding that “there will be a transfer fee involved as well for Brisbane.”
Herrington has played 12 games in his first season in the Isuzu UTE A-League, including 11 starts. Last month, Herrington made history with the Young Socceroos who won the AFC Under-20 Asian Cup title in China.
