Glory striker ‘annoyed’ by draw with Wanderers

Perth Glory’s star striker Chris Harold was annoyed after his side “nullified” Western Sydney Wanderers but could only draw 1-1 with Tony Popovic’s side on Sunday night in Sydney.

Wanderers came back from a goal down to draw with Perth in their Round 13 clash at a humid and wet ANZ Stadium in a tight game that came to life in the final 20 minutes.

But Harold – who was outstanding for the WA outfit and helped set up an excellent opener for Adam Taggart – was angry his side allowed the Wanderers back in the game.

“We worked very hard defensively in tough, humid conditions,” he told Fox Sports.

“It’s kind of an annoying goal to give away, because we defended so resiliently but I guess we’ll take a draw away from home.”

The match was Harold’s 100th for Perth Glory.

The result keeps Glory in fifth spot six points behind Melbourne City as the race for fifth and sixth spot heats up as the league moves into the second half of the season.

“We scored an excellent goal early on and we frustrated them,” Harold added.

Glory fullback Josh Risdon challenges for the ball with Wanderers Captain Dimas.

“They have excellent rotations in the wide areas with their wingers coming  inside and their full backs bombing [on] so we nullified that for most of the game.

“So it’s annoying to get caught out by one.”

Kenny Lowe’s men now have a short turnaround facing Wellington Phoenix at home this Thursday night to kick off Round 14 in the Hyundai A-League.
