One game down, four to go for the Fans in Vans crew after last night-s Brisbane Roar and Central Coast Mariners clash at Suncorp Stadium.
It was a very wet start to Saturday in Brisbane as Lee and Matt headed to the airport to pick up David and it was a quick turnaround back at the hostel before heading into Brisbane for the afternoon.
The first port of call in the city was the Pig & Whistle on Eagle Street to grab some food and take in the rugby between Ireland and Wales.
Afterwards it was on to Caxton Street where the first group of partisan Roar fans made themselves known to all around. They were in fine form with plenty of orange on show and some interesting chants aimed at the few Mariners supporters in the vicinity.
Speaking of Mariners fans, the group chatted to a couple who had made their way up from the Central Coast despite having been left disappointed on their last trip to Suncorp. They spoke with optimism ahead of the game but struggled when asked who they would prefer to beat this year – Brisbane or local rivals Newcastle Jets!
After watching the aforementioned Jets fluke a 3-2 win against Melbourne Heart and the first half of Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC, it was time to go to the ground to collect tickets and soak up the atmosphere.
There were plenty of photos taken in and around Suncorp Stadium and Neil didn-t waste an opportunity to be snapped with some promotion girls outside.
The stadium itself impressed everybody, as did the passionate Roar supporters in the north end who sang for almost the entire 90 minutes. They got the result they wanted with a 1-0 win thanks to Mitch Nichols 72nd-minute strike and everybody left satisfied with the season finally underway.
Unfortunately the crew is now a person down with Carly having to return to the Central Coast for family reasons and her bubbly attitude will certainly be missed, though maybe not her questionable road trip music tastes!
Today it-s off to the Gold Coast to watch United take on Wellington Phoenix at Skilled Park before finding a bar so Perth Glory fan Neil and Adelaide United supporter David can watch their sides go head-to-head.
With some good weather in Queensland it should make for a great day of football.
