Queensland Roar Women striker Courtney Beutel says her side’s job isn’t done yet despite wrapping up the Westfield W-League Premiership on Saturday.
The lively attacker took a well-earned rest at the beach yesterday after scoring in the Roar-s 3-1 win over the Victory in Melbourne, which secured the inaugural league title with two rounds remaining.
But there is more work on the horizon with finals and the possibility of the golden boot to aim for.
“Saturday-s game was good fun,” Beutel said. “It was a good win and we were all pretty excited about it.”
While she said the Premiership was more highly-valued, the prospect of a grand final win was something to savour.
“It-s a big stepping stone for me.
“I always just wanted to get to the place I-m at so all of it is really exciting, but the grand final would just be a bonus on top I guess.
“We-re all excited that the women finally have a chance to show themselves and put ourselves out there.”
Beutel-s goal on Saturday was her fourth in eight games, leaving her two goals off the top of the scoring charts with team mates Lauren Colthorpe and Lana Harch.
Roar Women will return to Ballymore this weekend at a double-header with Roar Youth on Saturday.
Beutel said she was looking forward to celebrating the Premiership by giving the home fans a win over the Central Coast Mariners.
“It-s always good fun to play in front of your home crowd,” she said. “You get your friends and family there and big lot of support behind you so we always enjoy that.
“We-re not really going to change anything because it-s no good changing things yet.
“We-ll just keep it how it is and get the last two wins.”
The Roar are hot favourites to claim their eighth win in nine matches on Saturday after thrashing the Mariners 5-0 in the last encounter.
However, Beutel was expecting a more difficult match this time.
“All the teams have stepped up,” she said. “We-re always prepared for a battle and we won-t take anything lightly.”
Saturday-s Westfield W-League match kicks off at 6pm at Ballymore and will be preceded by a National Youth League curtain-raiser at 3.30pm.
