Wellington Phoenix star named Liberty A-League Fan Player of the Year

Wellington Phoenix star Mariana Speckmaier has been named the 2023-24 Liberty A-League Fan Player of the Year.

Speckmaier took out the fan vote following a breakout season in her maiden campaign with the Phoenix, edging Michelle Heyman (Canberra United), Sarina Bolden (Newcastle Jets), Cortnee Vine (Sydney FC) and Casey Dumont (Central Coast Mariners).

The Venezuela international scored 10 goals in 21 appearances, having arrived in Wellington at the start of 2023-24.

Speckmaier’s form saw her not only claim the club’s Golden Boot but also the Media Player of the Year at the Phoenix’s recent awards night.
