Melbourne City have added some creativity and flair to their midfielder ahead of the new season, signing Danish midfielder Emiliano Marcondes for the 2026/27 campaign.
The 31-year-old joins City from English Championship club Norwich City with more than 300 senior appearances across spells in Denmark and England, with the midfielder already in Melbourne and training with Aurelio Vidmar’s side.
Marcondes came through FC Nordsjælland’s academy and made 131 first-team appearances for the Danish club, scoring 42 goals before moving to England in 2018.

He subsequently played for Brentford, Bournemouth and Norwich, making more than 150 Championship appearances.
“I’m really happy to be joining Melbourne City and excited for this new challenge in Australia,” Marcondes said.
“I’d heard a lot of positive things about the Club, the style of football the team wants to play and the ambition that exists here, and my first impressions since arriving have only reinforced that.
“I’ve always enjoyed playing in teams that want to control the ball and play positive football, so I’m excited to be here working with my new teammates and the coaching staff, and will do everything I can to help bring success to the Club.”
One of the highlights of his time in England came with Brentford in 2021, when he scored in the Championship Play-Off Final as the club secured promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 74 years.
Marcondes, who primarily operates between the lines, is regarded as a creative midfielder capable of unlocking defences with his movement and passing.
Melbourne City Director of Football Michael Petrillo said Marcondes’ experience and creativity would strengthen the club’s attacking options.
“We’re delighted to welcome Emiliano to Melbourne City,” Petrillo said.

“He’s a player we’ve admired for some time and brings a level of experience that speaks for itself after so many years competing in Denmark and England.
“His creativity, technical quality and football intelligence make him an excellent fit for the way we want to play, and we believe he’ll have a significant influence on our attacking play.
“Just as importantly, Emiliano has consistently performed in structured, possession-based teams throughout his career, and we’re excited to see the impact he’ll have within our environment.”
The addition of Marcondes comes off the back of City landing Socceroo Awer Mabil on a three-year deal from Spanish Segunda Division side CD Castellon.
