Football Federation Australia (FFA) has determined that Perth Glory player, Rostyn Griffiths, has breached the FFA National Code of Conduct (the Code) by actions he engaged in immediately after receiving an indirect red card in or around the 88th minute of the Hyundai A-League Round 15 Match between Newcastle Jets and Perth Glory on Sunday, 15 January 2017 (Match).
Griffiths was asked to make a submission to FFA in response to the allegation, which he has done.
After consideration of the submissions made by Griffiths and Perth Glory, FFA determined to sanction Griffiths with a one (1) match suspension for breaching clauses 2.1 and 6.1(a) of the Code. In determining the sanction, FFA considered sanctions applied in comparable incidents in the Hyundai A-League.
In addition, FFA has informed Griffiths that any further breach of the Code could result in more severe sanctions being applied.
Accordingly, Griffiths will be ineligible for Perth Glory’s next two (2) Hyundai A-League matches against Melbourne Victory on 21 January 2017 and Central Coast Mariners on 28 January 2017 due to the suspension he has incurred as a result of the indirect red card and the subsequent breach of the Code of Conduct.
Griffiths has seven (7) business days to appeal FFA’s determination, should he wish to do so.
