Football Federation Australia can confirm that Hyundai A-League matches scheduled for today will go ahead as planned despite disruptions to air travel in Australia.
“All the away teams and match officials are in place for today-s fixtures, so there will be no disruption to matches or broadcast schedules,” said the Head of Hyundai A-League, Lyall Gorman.
“We are now working on contingency plans for the return travel of those teams and match officials to ensure they can begin their preparations for next weekend-s matches. Unfortunately, there will be some inconvenience and delays, but we hope to keep these to a minimum.
”On a weekly basis we have over 200 players and officials across 13 teams and our referees group travelling for our national competitions and the majority of trips involve air travel. Inevitably we will have logistical issues at times like these.”
The two Hyundai A-League matches today are Wellington Phoenix v Melbourne Victory at Westpac Stadium, Wellington (kick off 2.30pm AEDT) and Gold Coast United v Newcastle Jets at Skilled Park, Gold Coast (kick off 5pm AEDT).
The matches are broadcast live and exclusively on Fox Sports.
The National Youth League match between Australian Institute of Sport and Melbourne Victory scheduled for the AIS in Canberra today has been postponed due to the travel plans of the Melbourne Victory being affected.
The return travel plans this weekend of several Hyundai A-League, Westfield W-League and National Youth League teams have been affected, including the Sydney FC men, Adelaide United, Perth Glory and Melbourne Victory women and youth teams, and Melbourne Heart youth team.
