Shaken Sydney FC defender Simon Colosimo feared he had suffered serious injury after a spectacular fall landed him in hospital during the Sky Blues’ first pre-season hit-out on Wednesday night.
The former Socceroo was left coughing up blood after being up-ended and falling heavily during Sydney’s 1-0 win over State League outfit Macarthur Rams.
Colosimo spent four hours in Campbelltown Hospital under observation before being released.
Still groggy and suffering back pain, he was allowed to train lightly on Thursday morning.
“I was pretty scared and a little worried at the time,” Colosimo told Sportal.
“I’ve had plenty of knocks before but when you come up coughing blood it is concerning.”
“It was a pretty hard knock and you do crap yourself a bit.”
“I got up pressing my chest and rib cage to make sure nothing was damaged and it was all okay.”
“It was more a precautionary thing that I came off and went to hospital.”
The incident happened during the first half, Colosimo having his legs taken out from under him as he went to contest a ball in the air.
He quipped: “I got 10 points for height and execution and nothing for the landing.”
Colosimo jogged lightly and joined in a game of soccer tennis with team-mates on Thursday, declaring himself available for next Wednesday’s friendly against Bankstown City.
Brendan Gan provided the goal in the win over the Rams, ensuring new coach Vitezslav Lavicka’s stint at Sydney FC started on the right note.
