Adelaide United import Gunnhildur Jonsdottir has warned the Reds will only continue to improve ahead of a Thursday night Westfield W-League blockbuster with Sydney FC.
Jonsdottir and Icelandic countrywoman Fanndis Fridriksdottir and American pair Veronica Latsko and Amber Brooks have made a big difference to United in the 2018/19 season, with the perennial strugglers unbeaten after five matches.
That form sees United sitting third in the table, three points ahead of the Sydney FC outfit they face at Cromer Park.

“I think we have a lot more to give which is good since we haven’t been beaten,” Jonsdottir told Adelaide United’s official website.
“That means there’s only more to come from us but I think it’s getting better and better with each game – confidence is coming.
“I think coming from last season, the winning mentality wasn’t there.
“But we’ve been playing well and winning and playing not so well, too, and getting results.
“Which is a good thing, I feel, for a team, because that means you’re creating that winning mentality that you can have an off day but still win.”

Key to United’s improved form is a solid defence, with Ivan Karlovic’s side having conceded just three goals in five matches.
The Westfield W-League’s best defence was beaten twice by Westfield Matildas star Sam Kerr in a 2-2 draw with Perth Glory last week but there is no shame in that.
Defender Emily Hodgson said the outstanding defensive record was down to all players on the pitch.
“Our backline has been very solid this year,” she told Adelaide United’s official website.
“But that also comes from other players everywhere else being able to keep them out – not just from us.”
Ahead of the Sydney FC test, Hodgson said winning away was a challenge United thrived on.
“It’s going to be a tough game,” she said.
“I think they’re starting to find their form at the moment, but we just need to continue to work hard and to work together as a team.
“Away games are always a challenge, but I think that’s a good thing.
“Playing in front of home crowds is always great but it’s even better to get away wins.
“I think that’s something we always strive for – to be able to come home with the points.”
