The Westfield W-League 2018/19 Season has been Caitlin Foord’s best, both in stats and performances, and she showcased this once more in Sydney FC’s 3-0 win over Western Sydney Wanderers.
The Westfield Matildas forward was making a nuisance of herself all game, but finished the first half without a goal to her name.

The blank in Foord’s goals column would only last so long, and it took a piece of brilliance for her to grab her sixth goal of the campaign.
A 20-metre run, finished off with a 25-metre strike was the perfect way for Foord to double Sydney’s lead and epitomise their run to the finals which has been laden with goals and attacking excellence.
Foord grabbed her seventh goal of the campaign 15 minutes later, converting from the spot after Caitlin Jarvie had been given her marching orders.
Foord and her Westfield Matildas teammates Alanna Kennedy and Chloe Logarzo played the full 90 minutes, while Princess Ibini clocked 83 minutes.
Kerr’s milestone not enough to seal glory for Perth
Saturday afternoon was a bittersweet occasion for Sam Kerr who notched her 50th Westfield W-League goal for Perth Glory, but saw her side throw away their lead to lose 3-1 to the Newcastle Jets.
The assist came from a likely source, Rachel Hill whipped in a lethal cross which Kerr met with aplomb, giving the American her fifth assist of the campaign.
The goal was Kerr’s 10th for the 2018/19 Season, putting her two ahead of nearest challengers Natasha Dowie and Veronica Latsko.

With regards to the Jet’s Westfield Matildas personnel, both Larissa Crummer and Gema Simon played the full 90 minutes.
The defenders had eventful games, tasked with having to thwart Hill and Alyssa Mautz and support their centre-half pairing from a lethal Kerr.
In the end, they did enough as Newcastle emerged triumphant.

Carpenter strike keeps Canberra’s finals hopes alive
Ellie Carpenter lined up on the wing for Canberra United on Sunday afternoon, tasked with the mammoth responsibility of assisting her team in attacks, and shouldering a defensive burden, too.
The 18-year-old took it in her stride, so much so that she popped up on 59 minutes to fire Canberra into the lead.
After Meaghan McElligott’s strike was thwarted by the Reds defence, Carpenter pounced on the rebound to hammer home from inside the box and send the McKellar Park faithful into raptures.

Carpenter played the full 90 minutes in an impressive performance for the youngster, where she had three shots on goal, all of which ended up on target.
Conversely, her Westfield Matildas teammate Michelle Heyman had four shots on goal but was unable to force Sham Khamis into a save.
In positive signs, Heyman played the full 90 minutes and will need to turn things on as Adelaide have fallen out of the top-four for the first time this season.

Roar soar despite Gorry’s absence
Brisbane Roar claimed a gritty 1-0 win over Melbourne City on Friday afternoon thanks to a Chioma Ubogagu sucker punch on 74 minutes.
The win was Brisbane’s first since Katrina Gorry was ruled out of the 2018/19 Season with a ruptured syndesmosis, with Clare Polkinghorne and Mackenzie Arnold putting in stoic defensive displays for the visitors.
Arnold was particularly solid at the back, pulling off four saves in the match to earn her third clean sheet of the season — equal-most in the league.

Facing them was a Melbourne City team filled with Westfield Matildas eager to climb into the top four.
Tameka Butt epitomised City’s performance, her eight shots showing promising signs but producing only one save out of Mackenzie Arnold.
Elise Kellond-Knight had two shots for City, one of which was on target, though not her 47th-minute penalty which she flashed wide.
While Lydia Williams had a relatively quiet afternoon, producing the one save and conceding late to Ubogagu.
