Melbourne City have lured Jimmy Jeggo back home to Australia, prising the Socceroos midfielder from Scottish Premiership outfit Hibernian.
Jeggo has signed for the three-time reigning Isuzu UTE A-League premiers until the end of the 2024-25 season with an option to extend until the 2025-26 campaign following the departure of Hamza Sakhi due to personal reasons.
The former Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory midfielder, who has 15 international caps to his name for Australia, had spent the past eight years in Europe.

For the last two seasons, the 31-year-old was playing for Hibernian in Scotland – where he amassed 36 appearances in the top flight, including 20 for Nick Montgomery’s side this term.
“We are thrilled to welcome James to the club,” said City’s director of football Michael Petrillo, with the club scheduled to meet Perth Glory away from home on Friday night.
“His considerable experience in Europe and with the Socceroos will add significant depth to our midfield. He’s a highly skilled footballer who will further strengthen our squad as we embark on the business end of the season.
“Not only will James bring an abundance of experience both in Australia and abroad, he’s a player that will suit our style of play and one that City fans will enjoy watching over the coming seasons.”
Jeggo is no stranger to the A-Leagues, having played for Victory and Adelaide prior to moving to Europe in 2016.
He spent three years within Victory’s senior setup between 2011-2014 after emerging from the club’s youth system.
Jeggo then moved to Adelaide in 2014 and he was part of the Reds outfit that won the Australia Cup that year before leaving two years later.
The A-League Young Footballer of the Year in 2014-15, Jeggo went on to play for Austrian clubs Sturm Graz – where he was an Austrian Cup winner – and Austria Vienna, as well as Greek club Aris and KAS Eupen in Belgium.
“I am delighted to be joining Melbourne City for the next couple of seasons. It’s an opportunity that really excites me and one I’m really looking forward to,” Jeggo said.
“After eight years abroad, now was the right time for me to return home to Melbourne and I can’t wait to get to work and meet the City fans.
