Western Sydney Wanderers have relieved Carl Robinson of his duties as head coach of the club’s Isuzu UTE A-League side.
Robinson joined the Wanderers for the start of the 2020/21 Isuzu UTE A-League season after an impressive 10-game spell in charge of Newcastle Jets, which garnered six wins, three draws and just one defeat.
But in 31 Isuzu UTE A-League games at the Wanderers Robinson oversaw just nine victories, drawing 10 and losing 12 to end his stint at the helm with a win percentage of just over 29%.
Western Sydney recruited strongly in the off-season leading into the 2021/22 Isuzu UTE A-League campaign, but have notched just one win from six to start the season (two draws, three losses).
Adding to the turmoil was an FFA Cup Round of 16 defeat to NPL NSW outfit APIA Leichhardt, who defeated Robinson’s side 2-1 on December 7. The shock result came during APIA Leichhardt’s NPL off-season.
Robinson’s departure comes the day after a 3-0 defeat to Brisbane Roar, who came into the fixture bottom of the Isuzu UTE A-League table but proceeded to play the Wanderers off the park at Moreton Daily Stadium.
A club statement, released on Sunday afternoon, read: “The Wanderers would like to thank Carl for his time at the club over the last one and half seasons and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
“The club will shortly make an announcement regarding the head coach position for the rest of the season.”
Western Sydney have now sacked four head coaches since the departure of Tony Popovic in September, 2017. The club has since gone four seasons without an Isuzu UTE A-League finals appearance, as the fans have grown increasingly restless hoping for change.
