North Queensland young gun David Williams has completed his transfer from Danish club Brondby IF, finalising a new contract with the Fury that keeps him at the club until the end of the 2011-12 season.
Williams agreed to the terms of an offer from the Fury just before Christmas, but the transfer paperwork still had to be worked through with Brondby IF and the move could not be made official until the January transfer window opened.
Fury chairman Don Matheson said he was always sure of securing the Williams for the club.
“We were always confident and we knew that David wanted to stay here,” he said.
“(But) as with any business, there was paperwork that had to be done and we were able to work with Brondby IF to ensure it all went smoothly and there were no problems.”
“We had David on a one-year-loan and he told us he wanted to stay. Now we’ve got him for two seasons. It’s a fantastic result for us and for David.”
Williams has played at senior level for the Qantas Socceroos after working his way through the Qantas Junior Socceroos’ teams.
The 22-year-old is confident North Queensland offers him all he needs to perform well.
“As long as I’m comfortable, I think I play my best football and I’m very happy with the ways things have worked out at the Fury,” Williams said.
“It’s great to be back in Australia and getting the opportunity to play.”
“I’m really looking forward to playing for North Queensland for the next two seasons,” he said.
