The second season of the Westfield W-League continued an exciting new era in women’s sport with stars of the games recognised for their outstanding contribution at the Westfield W-League Awards in Sydney, today.
Six players, two teams, one referee and two coach were amongst those honoured.
“The Westfield W-League has continued this season to showcase the fine footballing talents of some of our most exciting female athletes,” said FFA CEO, Ben Buckley.
“This season has seen the Westfield W-League build on its place in the Australian sporting culture and shows the potential for elite female competition in Australia to continue to develop at a professional level.”
Central Coast Mariners and Perth Glory players took home the top honours.
The Julie Dolan Medal for Player of the Year was awarded to Central Coast Mariners- Michelle Heyman, who also picked up the Golden Boot for her 11 goals during the season and the Hat Trick award for her three goals in Round 7.
Perth Glory-s Samantha Kerr was voted Players- Player of the Year following a sensational season and also took home Goal of the Year for her long range effort in Round 8.
Jillian Loyden of Central Coast Mariners was named Goalkeeper of the Year.
The Young Player of the Year Award saw joint winners, Brisbane Roar-s Elise Kellond-Knight and Canberra United-s Ellyse Perry.
“We are very pleased with the second season of the Westfield W-League. It further cements the place of football for women and girls in the sporting landscape and gives talented female athletes a strong domestic competition,” said Buckley.
