Westfield Matildas in action: Westfield W-League Round 7 wrap

With the 2018 Asian Cup looming in April, Westfield Matildas boss Alen Stajcic would be thrilled to see some of his key players firing in the W-League.

Here’s how several national team stars performed in Round 7.

LISA DE VANNA

De Vanna ensured her side took home the three points in the Sydney Derby with a second half strike against the Wanderers.

The Matildas veteran pounced on a mistake by Wanderers keeper Jada Whyman to seal a 3-1 win for the Sky Blues.

MICHELLE HEYMAN

The Canberra United forward netted her 50th goal for the club in her side’s 2-1 loss to Melbourne City.

Heyman capitalised on an error from Matildas goalkeeper Lydia Williams to make it 1-1 midway through the first half, but it wasn’t enough as Jess Fishlock’s late strike won it for City.

LYDIA WILLIAMS

The usually reliable City keeper had a moment to forget midway through the first half when an errant pass gifted Canberra United an equaliser.

She made amends after tipping a late attempt from Ellie Carpenter just over the crossbar to seal City’s 2-1 victory.

EMILY VAN EGMOND

The Matildas star wasn’t able to get on the scoresheet but helped teammate Arin Gilliland to a hat-trick in the Jets’ 3-0 romp of Brisbane Roar.

The midfielder played a role in two of the goals as Newcastle jumped to equal top of the Westfield W-League.
