Wanderers star called up by World No. 82 for the first time since 2021

Western Sydney Wanderers star Bozhidar Kraev is back in the Bulgaria squad after being called up for their UEFA Nations League play-off against the Republic of Ireland.

Kraev has not played for Bulgaria since June 2021 but the 24-time international has been re-called for the country’s two-legged promotion/relegation showdown, with the first leg in Plovdiv on March 20 before travelling to Dublin three days later.

The 27-year-old has been rewarded for his Isuzu UTE A-League form as world number 82 Bulgaria fight to avoid relegation from the Nations League’s League B.

Kraev has scored five goals for the Wanderers this season, while Western Sydney are sixth amid their Finals Series pursuit.

His return from the international wilderness also comes in the midst of a chaotic period for Bulgaria.

Bulgaria manager Ilian Iliev tendered his resignation a fortnight ago amid growing unhappiness among top-flight clubs but he may yet be in charge for the play-off against the Republic of Ireland.
