Isuzu UTE A-League young guns dominate Australia’s U23 squad for Doha International Cup

Australia’s Under-23 squad is stacked with A-Leagues talent for this month’s Doha International U23 Cup in Qatar.

Of the 23-player squad set to come up against Croatia (March 19), the United Arab Emirates (March 22) and Qatar (March 25), 22 are from the Isuzu UTE A-League as Tony Vidmar begin to work towards their 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifiers in September.

A-Leagues graduate Mohamed Toure (Rangers) is the only player in the squad not currently based in the Isuzu UTE A-League.

Western Sydney Wanderers have the most representatives with four players, followed by Western United – including Matthew Grimaldi following his first career brace, and Melbourne Victory (three apiece).

Sydney FC star Adrian Segecic, who is in the Golden Boot running, is also in the squad.

The 22 Isuzu UTE A-League players selected by the Australian U23 side come from 10 clubs:

Central Coast Mariners: Nathan Paull, Dylan Peraic-Cullen
Macarthur Bulls: Kealy Adamson
Melbourne City: Patrick Beach,
Melbourne Victory: Kasey Bos, Joshua Rawlins, Jing Reec, Jordi Valadon
Newcastle Jets: Clayton Taylor
Perth Glory: Nathanael Blair
Sydney FC: Corey Hollman, Adrian Segecic

Western United: Rhys Bozinovski, Matthew Grimaldi, Kane Vidmar

“This is a great tournament to be a part of and will provide an excellent experience for the group as we work towards our Asian Cup Qualifiers in September,” Vidmar said.

“We’ve brought together a squad who are getting plenty of minutes at their respective clubs and are performing well. We feel the opposition and the conditions they’ll face in Doha offer a different test for them within the national team pathway.

“We want to continue developing these players individually and building depth across the age group, our involvement in this tournament is another important part of that.

“I’m excited by the quality both within this group and on our extended monitoring list and am looking forward to connecting with the players and staff to lay the foundations for the year ahead.”
