It all started so well for Adelaide United at Suncorp Stadium. With Dario Vidosic continuing his fine form by latching onto a clever back-heel from Sergio van Dijk and burying a long-ranger, the Reds were in dreamland.
Had he managed to grab a second when the opportunity arose shortly after, it could have been a very different story, but, from the 21st minute onwards, it was a rough night indeed in Brisbane for Rini Coolen and his players.
Going from 1-0 up to 5-1 down in the space of 15 minutes is incredibly hard for any side to take, so they must be credited for continuing to try to do the right things.
There aren’t many plus points to take from a 7-1 loss, but being the first side to score against Roar this season and therefore the first side to take the lead against them is at least something to be proud of.
Now, of course, it is all about the reaction. Players and fans can do one of two things. Lick their wounds and sit in the corner feeling sorry for themselves, or pick themselves up, dust themselves down and set about writing the wrongs of last week.
Adelaide is a proud club and there is little doubt that they will be doing the latter. So, you’d be advised to get yourself down to Hindmarsh on Friday, as there is every chance that you will see the Reds bounce back with a vengeance! Like wounded animal, they are ready to lash out.
United take on a Melbourne Heart side that sits at the foot of the ladder having yet to pick up a win this season. However, they came mighty close last Saturday and will be kicking themselves that they didn’t reward their fans with three points.
Substitute striker Maycon’s goal in the 88th minute sparked wild celebrations from the home supporters, but their joy was short lived. With the game in its fourth minute of stoppage time, Sydney’s Nicky Carle stole a point and broke Melbourne Hearts.
While the late equaliser was a huge disappointment to John van ‘t Schip, he’ll have seen enough in his side’s performance to suggest that a first win isn’t far away.
United hold the advantage in the head-to-head between the sides, with two wins to Melbourne’s one. However, the visitors will be encouraged by their last trip to Adelaide, which saw them come away with an astonishing 2-1 win, thanks to a couple of late, late goals. the Reds will need to be at their best to ensure the same doesn’t happen again on Friday.
Adelaide United have a point to prove and ghosts to lay to rest, so there is no doubt they are going to come out with all guns blazing against Melbourne Heart. Get a ticket and prepare to see exactly what the Reds are made of!
