Electrical storms have forced the postponement of the A-League Women’s clash in Wollongong between Wellington Phoenix and Adelaide United.
Officials pushed back Thursday night’s kickoff by almost two hours to allow hailstorms to pass across the coast.
However, they decided the fixture was too dangerous to be played, even at the delayed 8:05pm AEDT kickoff.
The match joins a long queue of postponed fixtures, mostly due to COVID-19 unavailability, this season.
Australian Professional Leagues (APL) are looking at when the match can be rescheduled, with the teams wanting to play sooner rather than later.
And Wellington coach Gemma Lewis has flagged the possibility of the match being played on Friday.
“Both teams are keen to play tomorrow because they (Adelaide) are here, they’ve travelled obviously, it costs them a lot as well,” she said.
Lewis believes her players will have no problem getting themselves up again for the game if it is played on Friday.
“If they could play tomorrow morning they would,” she said.
“We train a lot, we work really hard but ultimately all the girls want is games.
“Both teams are ready to play so we would really like to get it done tomorrow.
“But obviously that’s just me talking from one perspective as coach of the team and not from the perspective of anything that’s been sorted or locked in.
“A few calls will be made in the background tonight to figure out if that’s even a possibility.”
