Melbourne City’s Connor Chapman, says Asian football expert @JohnnyDuerden, has moved to a K-League “citizen club” in a gritty port city that beat relegation last season under Lee Ki-hyung.
Connor Chapman can look forward to a new career in South Korea but to be successful, he is going to have to do something that no Australian has ever done in the Land of the Morning Calm – play regularly and happily at Incheon United.
Transfer news: City defender bound for Korea
Last season there was a serious flirtation with relegation with the team spending much of the first half of the season at rock bottom.
Coach Kim Do-hoon didn’t last the season and was replaced by former Auckland City and South Korea international Lee Ki-hyung.Â
Lee steadied the ship last season with a physical and aggressive approach.
It remains to be seen how Incheon approach the new K-League Classic season (the top flight of South Korean football).Â
Serbian striker Dalibor Veselinovic and Croatian defender Gordan Bunoza add a lot of physical presence to a squad that is lacking in star power.
Fans are hoping for a better season in 2017 and Chapman should have a large part to play.
