Sydney FC’s teenage star signs contract extension until 2028

Sydney FC has on Friday announced that exciting young midfielder Claire Corbett has signed a new two-year contract extension, keeping her at the club until 2028.

The 16-year-old Australian Under-17 international has quickly emerged as one of the brightest young prospects in the Ninja A-League Women competition, with the new deal securing another outstanding talent from Sydney FC’s renowned female development pathway.

Corbett enjoyed a rapid rise into the senior squad this season, making her debut as a substitute against Melbourne City in early January.

She continued to feature in matchday squads before earning a starting role for the final six matches of the campaign—an impressive achievement for a player of her age.

In total, Corbett made 11 appearances in her debut season, underlining her growing importance within the squad and her significant long-term potential.

Head Coach James Slaveski said the club is thrilled to retain Corbett and continue her development in Sky Blue.

“Claire is a fantastic young player with a very bright future ahead of her,” he said.

“She is very tidy on the ball, has excellent distribution and is extremely comfortable in possession, which are qualities that are so important in the way we want to play.

“She’s shown great maturity for someone so young, and if she continues to work hard and develop, she has all the attributes to become a Matilda for many years to come.

“We’re delighted she’ll be continuing her journey with us.”

Corbett said she is excited to extend her stay at Sydney FC and build on her breakthrough season.

“I’m really happy and excited to have signed this new contract,” she said.

“To make the step up into the first team this season and then be rewarded with a new deal means a lot to me.

“The Sydney FC pathway through the Female Development Program has been so important in helping me get to this point, and I’m really grateful for the support I’ve had along the way.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to learn, improve and hopefully help the team win trophies in the years ahead in Sky Blue.”

Corbett’s extension reinforces Sydney FC’s commitment to developing elite young talent and ensuring the club remains at the forefront of women’s football development in Australia.
