Sydney FC head coach Ufuk Talay said the Isuzu UTE A-League club are still in talks with young gun Adrian Segecic regarding a new contract as speculation mounts over his future.
Segecic has taken the A-Leagues by storm this season as he sits top of the Golden Boot charts with 12 goals alongside Adelaide United’s Archie Goodwin, but the 20-year-old is out of contract at the end of the campaign.

After Sydney’s history-making AFC Champions League Two campaign came to an end at the hands of Singapore’s Lion City Sailors in the semi-finals on Wednesday, Talay was asked about Segecic’s future.

“I think there’s still conversations happening within the club,” the Sky Blues boss told reporters post-game at Allianz Stadium midweek.
“Whether that comes to fruition or not, I think we will find out in a short amount of time.”

Joe Lolley’s 85th-minute strike gave the home side some hope at the death, however, Lion City held on for a spot in the ACL Two decider.

“Disappointing,” Talay said. “I think we had most of the ball all of the game and played in their half.
“We played against a side who’s very defensive and waiting for counter-attacking moments but we struggled to break them down.
“It would’ve been nice if that first goal counted early doors in the game, that offside goal, it probably would’ve changed things.
“We got the goal very late and then we kept pushing and probing. But I think where we lost it was conceding that second goal away from home.”
Talay’s Sydney will now look ahead to Sunday’s Round 27 clash with Newcastle Jets as they fight to secure an Isuzu UTE A-League finals berth.
The Sky Blues are sixth and a point ahead of Adelaide United.
“This is what we have to play for now, we’re out of the AFC competition,” said Talay.
“We have the A-League ahead of us where we have three important games for us to cement a spot in the top six.
“The boys will have to shift their focus.”
