The Sky Blues were beaten 2-0 by a slick Roar outfit that has now gone 30 matches without tasting defeat.
Sydney also failed to get on the scoresheet against Melbourne in the 0-0 draw that opened their campaign and are clearly struggling for confidence and potency up front.
Mark Bridge (suspended) and Finn Juho Makela (injured) are two possible answers in the short to medium term but Lavicka may also look outside the club to find a new marksman.
China-based ex-Socceroo Joel Griffiths has been mentioned as a possible Sydney target.
“We’re a bit limited in numbers up front but that’s football,” Lavicka said.
“Maybe we will discuss and possibly try to think about something (on the transfer market).”
“I was upset for Mark Bridge (because) he put in a good performance (against Melbourne) and we missed him up front.”
“But we still have to work and hopefully we can get better results soon.”
Those results will need to come sooner rather than later if Sydney are to join the pack chasing defending champions Brisbane.
The Roar are in a different league to anything seen before in Australia’s domestic competition, with coach Ange Postecoglou ominously predicting they will just get better the long the season extends.
But Lavicka is not prepared to throw in the towel this early.
“It’s only two games done this season,” Lavicka said.
“They have a very long (winning) streak so they are quite comfortable but the A-League is very close, it will be tough for everyone.”
“We have full respect for how Brisbane Roar are playing – they play very good football, (and are) probably one of the best in A-League (history).”
“We have room to improve and we will work hard to make (the gap) between us and them smaller.”
