Big-name off-season recruits Juan Mata and Douglas Costa made their respective Isuzu UTE A-League debuts in a blockbuster Round 1 Sydney Derby at CommBank Stadium on Saturday night.
Costa earned a start for Sydney FC in the opening-round blockbuster while Western Sydney Wanderers head coach Alen Stajcic named Mata among his substitutes but with half an hour to play in the Sydney Derby, both the Brazilian winger and Spanish playmaker were on the park as the two sides fought it out in Wanderland.
Mata’s introduction off the bench earned a rousing reception from the Wanderers faithful as they got a first glimpse of the 2010 World Cup winner and former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder in the Isuzu UTE A-League.
