Aussie football record shattered after another goal fest in Isuzu UTE A-League

History was made in the Isuzu UTE A-League after the competition reached the 500-goal mark over the weekend.

There was extra significance when Alex Gersbach opened the scoring for Western Sydney Wanderers in their 2-0 win over high-flying Western United on Sunday as the Socceroo’s maiden A-Leagues goal brought up the landmark.

The 500th goal of the 2024-25 season after 150 games – thanks to a 27-goal Round 26 – is the quickest the tally has been reached in Australian men’s league history, surpassing the 152 matches it took last season.

There are three rounds remaining, with Auckland FC four points clear atop the standings, while Sydney FC are one point inside the top six.
